As a Sacramento native growing up in California, I’ve found purpose in expressing my emotions and giving voice to the experiences of Black women. Too often, our emotions are dismissed or labeled as “too much,” leading many of us to suppress our vulnerability and femininity. My creative journey draws from that hidden pain, transforming it into something beautiful. In this way, I see myself, and many other Black women, as alchemists: turning struggle into art, silence into expression.
Being a Black woman in a world that constantly tries to define and diminish us is a challenge in itself. Through my work, I aim to reject those societal narratives and create space for self-definition and empowerment. My art becomes a declaration of identity, resilience, and visibility.
As a mixed media artist, I explore the space between realism and expressionism, using bold, earth-toned colors—such as reds, greens, browns, and yellows—to render Black and Brown skin in ways that are both true and transcendent. I mix and layer my own tones and highlights, not just to represent the physical, but to honor the complexity and beauty of our stories.
